Tiaki.MyTribe and the greater Tiaki Pregnancy and Family Centre family aim to support all families through pregnancy, baby's first year and beyond.

Our aim is to support, educate and develop in a friendly and accessible environment.

Our Brand

Why Tiaki (Ti-a-ki)? This is a question I am asked a lot. It starts with the origin of the first service I ever offered - Baby Massage. Baby Massage started long ago in the indigenous cultures of the world including the Maori people of New Zealand. I set about looking for words to capture the heart of what I wanted of offer and came up with this: Tiaki means to care and protect people and place.

The symbol I use is a Koru, a swirl depicting the new leaves of a fern as they open - this symbolises new life, growth, strengtth and peace.

Introduction to me:

My name is Alison, I am a daughter, sister, wife and mammy to three children (teenagers now), 3 dogs, 2 chickens, 2 turtles and some fish, I am also a registered Midwife with 20 years experience.

Working across the North East in my years with the NHS I have had the pleasure to work with and care for some amazing people at the happiest (and sometimes saddest) times in their lives - for one family it was with 4 babies - I call it a privilege!!

I wanted to offer more, so, in 2017 I set up Tiny Toes Consett, over the years this has developed MASSIVELY to what is today Tiaki.MyTribe and our amazing family centre. This want to offer more continues and I am pleased to say that I continue to seek out high quality and insurable learning to be able to provide the best, My aim is to continue to provide high quality, accessible support and services to the families of Derwentside and beyond.
